Please do not sign any document that requires your signature to be witnessed by the Notary until instructed to do so. Documents should generally be complete and ready for notarization before the appointment. Please fill in applicable information before the Notary arrives, while leaving required signature and notarial sections unsigned or incomplete as appropriate. A Notary cannot determine what information should be entered into your document or complete legal documents on your behalf.

For certain Remote Online Notarization appointments, the identity-verification process may include Knowledge-Based Authentication, commonly called KBA. KBA asks a series of multiple-choice questions based on information associated with your identity and credit history. These questions are generated by the identity-verification provider and are not created, selected, or viewed in advance by the Notary. You must successfully complete the required identity-verification steps before the notarization can proceed.

Before or during your Remote Online Notarization appointment, you may be asked to upload or scan an acceptable government-issued photo ID and complete additional identity-verification steps required by the RON platform. Depending on the platform and transaction, this may include credential analysis and Knowledge-Based Authentication. If you are unable to successfully complete the platform’s required identity-verification process, the remote notarization may not be able to proceed.

No. Knowledge-Based Authentication questions must be answered by the signer without assistance from the Notary or another person. The Notary does not have access to the correct answers and cannot help a signer complete the identity-verification process.
